Ford and Volkswagen have created a global alliance
Auto giants Volkswagen and Ford decided to unite and create autopilot. Heads of two large companies have started to elaborate autopilots on the modular platform MEB of the German interest.
Automakers reached consent on producing a global union after several months of negotiations. In 2018, the duo was discussing joining forces to create building for the new mid-sized pickup and commercial van.
It is specified that Ford is using the MEB structure for a totally new electric model, which will be produced for the European market at an enterprise in German Cologne. Release of new samples will start in 2023.
Since 2016, Volkswagen has already invested $ 7 million in the MEB platform. It should be the foundation for approximately 15 million eco-oriented cars that will be released under the brands of Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, and Seat.
The first created model is going to be the Volkswagen ID.3 hatchback - its first will take place in the fall-2019 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Furthermore, Volkswagen, within the framework of cooperation with Ford, has invested 2.6 million dollars in the project Argo AI. The company is working out the development of automatic control systems and is now occupied, creating a fourth level autopilot.
